Main duties of the job
- Provide an appointment booking service within the Radiology Department.
- Provide cover for other Appointment Clerks within the Radiology Department.
- Ensure that all Radiological referrals are scheduled to the appropriate modality in an efficient manner to avoid any loss of capacity in the agreed sessions.
- Maintain a short notice list of patients with contact numbers to ensure the efficient use of appointment spaces that become available.
- Telephone patients if scheduling occurs less than 7 days before their appointment date.
- Use of the Soliton and Lorenzo systems.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To communicate with patients within the department and on the telephone.
- Provide patients with information regarding their scans and in particular preparations they need to follow prior to appointment.
- Liaise with other members of staff within the department.
- Show empathy and tact at all times when dealing with the public.
- Attend Mandatory Training sessions as required.
- Follow the policies and procedures laid down within the Radiology Department and throughout the Trust.
- Suggest improvements that could be made in a particular job role possibly saving time/money for the department.
- Accuracy and confidentiality are the most important responsibilities of the job role.
- Input and retrieve patient details using the Trust wide PAS system and the RIS.
- Interrogate and validate the departmental waiting lists to ensure that robust and accurate data is available to requestors.
- Participate in the future upgrades of the radiology information system.
- Support service improvement within the radiology department.
- Monitor the efficiency of the booking system and suggest improvements.
- Comment on policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Essential
- Good standard of education up to GCSE or Level (A-C) standard
Desirable
- NVQ level 3 in Business Administration or Customer Service; or demonstrable relevant experience
Skills and Abilities
Essential
- Highly developed communication skills; provide, receive and negotiate complex information where persuasive, motivational or reassurance skills are required
Desirable
- In depth knowledge of all administration tasks and duties
Experience and Knowledge

- Experience of using a booking system in some environment
