Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quality Improvement Advisor to support the Specialist service lines with delivery and improvement of their services. This opportunity has arisen due to a short-term investment in the team capacity.

The improvement advisor will provide specialist quality improvement knowledge and expertise, tailoring plans and support for the unique challenges the service line has. They will support the movement of clinical audits to quality improvements projects, and ensure sustainability of progress.

Quality Improvement is one element of a Quality Management System, bringing together, planning, quality control, improvement and assurance under a framework. The post holder, will support the maturity of the Quality Management System in the organisation.

The Quality Improvement Adviser provides improvement leadership to clinical teams within their nominated Service Line to ensure delivery of effective and efficient programs to drive continuous improvements in healthcare service delivery. This post is one of four Quality Improvement Advisers who together are responsible for a broad portfolio of quality improvement initiatives and interactions across the Trust, embedding QI behaviours and skills.

The post will commence 1/10/2026 – 31/03/2028.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will act as an initial contact for improvement and a source of expertise in making changes and aiming to achieve high-quality services.
  • This role will provide intensive support to service lines, providing in-depth knowledge about improvements and helping teams to develop change ideas and test out possible solutions. Using local data and dashboards, the improvement advisor can support staff to measure changes.
  • Work with a range of stakeholders to ensure key areas are being addressed by build more co-production and co-produced projects.
  • This in-depth work will create opportunities for teaching and development sessions, embedding learning and continuous improvements at a local level.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To work proactively with Senior Service Leads across services to monitor the quality improvement within services using appropriate benchmarking, metrics and performance reports measuring variance against KPIs, providing early indications of quality issues requiring action or where innovative solutions could be implemented.   • To develop and implement projects, systems and processes to ensure the delivery of quality improvement and innovation, utilising service line data

Supporting the Senior Leadership Team and QSIR practitioners within service lines to review complex data for improvement, providing leadership/coaching/ and support formulating and amending strategies to progress projects building capacity.

Building quality improvement capability in our workforce, including frontline staff, through the  design and delivery of development programmes, training, mentoring and coaching, including the SLP QSIR faculty.

Essential

  • Prior project management experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, familiarity
  • Can flex between face-to-face meetings and virtual platforms
  • Demonstrated experience working on a high-level strategic project
  • Experience of applying continuous improvement methodology at multiple levels within an organisation.
  • Previous experience of bringing innovation and new ideas to practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing all aspects of a project (timelines, deliverables, meeting planning, marketing and communications, etc.)
  • Significant experience of successfully operating in a politically sensitive environment
  • Experience of monitoring budgets and business planning processes
  • Experience of providing supervision/coaching outside of the QII team.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of health promotion, quality improvement and measurement in healthcare
  • Understanding of statistics and measurement for improvement
  • Understanding of the public sector

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • IHI, QSIR or other continuous improvement qualification.
  • Advanced IT skills equivalent to the ECDL standard
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.

Desirable

  • Willingness to complete a continuous improvement qualification.
