Job overview
We are seeking to appoint a Principal Project Manager on a fixed-term basis to support the delivery of critical digital infrastructure projects within the New Velindre Cancer Centre (nVCC) programme.
Working within the Velindre University NHS Trust Digital Services Team, you will play a key role in delivering the technology infrastructure supporting one of the most significant healthcare developments in Wales. This is not a traditional project management role; we are looking for a technically credible individual with experience of network, server, cloud and data centre technologies who can lead the delivery of complex infrastructure solutions.
Working closely with architects, network engineers, cyber security specialists, suppliers and construction partners, you will oversee the design, implementation and transition of enterprise technology services into the new hospital environment. Strong technical understanding, risk management and decision-making skills are essential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading network, server, cloud and infrastructure projects
- Managing technical risks, dependencies, suppliers and governance
- Overseeing secure, resilient and scalable infrastructure solutions
- Challenging technical designs and delivery plans
- Supporting the successful opening of the New Velindre Cancer Centre
Main duties of the job
This role requires significant experience delivering complex digital infrastructure projects within large organisations. Candidates must demonstrate strong technical knowledge alongside proven project delivery expertise, including:
- Leading infrastructure projects involving networks, servers, cloud technologies and data centre services
- Working with architects, engineers and cyber security specialists to deliver secure and resilient solutions
- Managing projects through planning, procurement, implementation, testing and transition into service
- Understanding enterprise networking technologies including WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, connectivity services and firewalls
- Delivering server, storage, virtualisation and cloud infrastructure solutions
- Managing technical risks, dependencies, suppliers and governance arrangements
- Applying cyber security, information governance and infrastructure security best practices
- Developing project plans, budgets and reporting for senior stakeholders
- Ensuring new services meet operational, resilience and support requirements
- Providing technical leadership and communicating complex information clearly
This is a technically focused role and applicants should possess a strong understanding of modern IT infrastructure technologies and experience delivering technical infrastructure projects.
