We are looking for an inspired individual with Surgical experience to join our Surgical Pre- Assessment Team at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. The job offers the unique opportunity to bring your expertise to ensure safe and compssionate patient experience whilst maximising our capacity utilisation through innovative ways. You will work alongside your pre- assessment colleagues including, Surgeons and Perioperative Medicine and Senior Nursing Team to deliver high quality care to patients undergoing Breast, Gynae or Endocrine Surgery. The majority of these patients will be treated in the new Smithfield Wing. You will have the opportunity to ensure patients receive high quality care, ensuring they feel informed, engaged and well prepared for their pending treatment. The post holder will actively contribute to realise the service vision and key targets by working closely with the service leads. The post holder will partner with the peers to drive incremental innovation to achieve safe and compassionate patient experience

Main duties of the job

The Pre Assessment Nurse will work as part of a nurse- led team to assess patients pre-surgery in the new Smithfield Wing at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to work with Breast, Gynae/ Fertility and Endocrine Services, delivering patient- centred care as they prepare for their planned surgery.

The post holder will contribute to service provision, providing professional expertise, advice, care and support to those needing treatment and their families. The nurse will work across organizational boundaries and act as a link by maintaining ongoing contact with patients in a variety of settings. She / he will participate in research and education to advance clinical excellence in the care of this patient cohort.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

  • Relevant experience in the clinical speciality, including in at least one of breast, gynae or endocrine surgery
  • Experience in the management of the acutely unwell patient and recognition of the deteriorating patient
  • Experience in management of staff

Desirable

  • Experience as pre- assessment nurse

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on NMC Register
  • IV accreditation and phlebotomy
  • Minimum of 3 years post registration experience to include a minimum of 2 years surgical ward experience
  • Specialist Clinical course
  • Prep for mentorship course

Desirable

  • Possession of or working towards a degree
  • 1 year management / leadership experience
  • Releveant pre- assessment course
