Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Delivery: Provide a full range of nursing clinics and services on-site at Alastair Ross Medical Practice, ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
  • Cross-Practice Leadership: Youll provide cross-practice leadership by regularly visiting Tameside practices, offering hands-on guidance, mentorship, and practical support to nursing teams across the network.
  • Performance & Quality Oversight: Monitor, review, and enhance nursing performance across all sites, ensuring compliance with practice policies, CQC requirements, and national clinical guidelines. Support professional development and facilitate ongoing training.
  • Management Meetings: Attend weekly managerial meetings held in Tameside, taking place once each week in the morning, to contribute to operational planning and service improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborative Working: Work closely with practice management teams to identify opportunities for service development, improve patient outcomes, and uphold high standards of care across all locations.

We are seeking an experienced and confident Practice Nurse to join our dedicated healthcare team. The ideal candidate must have prior experience in general practice,be confident in using theEMISclinical system, and demonstrate a high standard of patient care and clinical competence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct health assessments, triage patients, and provide clinical advice.
  • Administer childhood and travel vaccinations, wound care, cervical screening, B12 injections and other treatment procedures.
  • Support chronic disease management programs (e.g., diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular health).
  • Drawing bloods and provide patient education and health promotion activities (e.g., smoking cessation, weight management).
  • Manage infection control and maintain clinical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records using electronic health systems.
  • Work within regulatory and clinical governance frameworks, ensuring best practice standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and contribute to practice audits and reviews.

About us

Alastair Ross Medical Practice is a busy, well-established GP surgery based within Breightmet Health Centre, a modern and accessible facility at the heart of the Breightmet community. We currently provide care to approximately 7,000 patients.

Our multidisciplinary team includes four regular GPs, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, a Practice Manager, an Assistant Manager, and a committed team of reception and administrative staff who work together to deliver high-quality patient care.

Although we operate as an independent practice, we work collaboratively with four sister surgeries located in Tameside. This partnership approach enables us to share expertise, strengthen services, and make the best possible use of our resources to ensure high-quality healthcare for all our patients.

Job responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Practice Nurse to join our team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality clinical care, leadership, and support across our practices, with a particular focus on chronic disease management and service development.

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care and evidence-based clinical advice to patients, including the management of chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and hypertension.
  • Travel to our Tameside practices to deliver on-site leadership, operational support, and mentorship to nursing teams, ensuring consistent standards and effective day-to-day delivery of care.
  • Oversee nursing performance, ensuring consistently high standards of clinical care, continuous professional development, and compliance with practice policies and national guidelines.
  • Attend weekly managerial meetings in Tameside (held once per week in the morning).
  • Conduct health screenings, childhood and adult immunisations, and other routine vaccinations.
  • Perform cervical cytology and actively participate in the cervical screening programme.
  • Provide health promotion, lifestyle guidance, and behavioural support, including smoking cessation and weight management advice.
  • Support and contribute to the achievement of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets.
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, healthcare assistants, and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated and patient-centred care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with practice policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and oversee Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) across the surgery, ensuring full adherence to statutory standards and best-practice protocols.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience working in a GP surgery or primary care setting
  • Competent in performing cervical smears
  • Skilled in delivering routine and seasonal immunisations
  • Experience working toward and achieving QOF-based targets
  • Able to administer B12 injections
  • Experienced in chronic disease management
  • Competent in phlebotomy (blood taking)

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (RN/RGN/RMN/RNLD) with current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and revalidation.
  • Accredited Cervical Cytology Screening Training (current and up-to-date).
  • Immunisation and Vaccination Training (including childhood immunisations and anaphylaxis management).
  • Chronic Disease Management training, e.g. in:
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • COPD
  • Hypertension
  • Cardiovascular disease

Desirable

  • Clinical leadership or management training
  • Training in infection prevention and control (IPC).
  • Safeguarding adults and children (Level 3).
  • Basic life support and CPR training.
