Job overview

The Band 7 midwife has continuing responsibility while on duty to manage the maternity ward or equivalent sphere of midwifery practice. This includes assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards.

The Midwife will facilitate innovative and evidence based midwifery practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team.

He/She will have managerial responsibility for a group of staff working within their practice area.

The Midwife will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower staff to develop personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential. This role includes clinical and managerial elements.

The Midwife will be part of the 24/7 Bleep holder roster and will be required to provide night and weekend cover.

Main duties of the job

The Midwife will liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to women, their baby's and family's care to promote the close integration of community and hospital based care.

The Midwife will report directly to and develop close working relationships with the Matron on operational and general management issues and clinical issues relevant to their practice area/team.

The Midwife will liaise with members of the OBU Midwifery Education Team to develop an effective learning environment for students.

The Midwife will ensure the clinical environment and other staff support new members of staff.

The Midwife will assist the Matron in achieving the strategic objectives for the Maternity service.

The Midwife will represent the maternity services / OUH NHS Trust on internal / external working groups as directed.
