Patient Safety Improvement Lead – Band 6 (secondment until 30/04/28)

Join the North West Ambulance Service as a Patient Safety Improvement Lead and be part of an exciting opportunity to support our Patient Safety team in embedding and improving patient safety across our organisation. This role (to cover the current postholder’s own secondment) offers the chance to make a real difference by helping teams deliver improvement to patient safety that benefit our patients, people and communities, aligned to our values of working together, being at our best and making a difference. This role will manage patient safety team governance and support the delivery of the trust’s strategy.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Quality Directorate, this secondment role will support the Patient Safety Specialist/Deputy Chief of Regulatory Compliance and Senior Patient Safety Learning Manager to improve safety within the organisation by:

  • Supporting the delivery of safety learning and improvement across the organisation from a range of insights including patient safety incident investigations, incidents, complaints, coroners, external organisations, regional/national reports and learning from excellence.
  • Contribution to the design of safer systems and quality improvement projects relating to safety
  • Working with a range of internal and external key stakeholders to improve safety
  • Contribution to the development of innovative learning materials and platforms for sharing knowledge through a range of methods such as case studies, skills drills, improvement tools, best practice and research.
  • Act in a liaison capacity to support operational teams where patients and families have experienced harm, through education and supervision, including support with Duty of Candour application.
  • Supporting the assessment and development of safety culture within the organisation
  • Provide general support and assistance to the Patient Safety Specialist/Deputy Chief of Regulatory Compliance /Senior Patient Safety Learning Manager /Other Safety Leads across the organisation
  • Support the organisation to maintain CQC compliance in relation to safety
  • Support the development and implementation of safety related policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the planning of /teaching/delivery of core training on a range of subjects or specialist training (for example Patient Safety Training)
