An opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join the team of Patient Flow coordinators working in the Command Centre at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
Candidates must have current acute hospital clinical experience, with an interest in operational management, patient flow and acute services.
The Command Centre operates 24/7; 365 days and the successful candidate will be expected to work shifts including weekends, bank holidays and night duties
The post offers diversity and an opportunity to gain clinical site management and patient flow experience working closely with all Trust clinical areas but particularly with the Emergency Department
This role is high pressured and fast pace and therefore you will need to be able to work under pressure. You will have line management supervision but will be expected to work independently.

Main duties of the job
- Attending wards (including Emergency department), identifying any escalations to facilitate timely admission, discharge whilst maintaining a safe care environment.
- Support allocation on a daily basis the team of pool healthcare assistants. Ensure Patient Flow Matron aware of any performance, professional or developmental issues relating to the pool team.
- To work as a key member of staff in the Command Centre, utilising the EPR to allocate and place patients safely and in a timely manner
- To receive and action promptly the request for bed allocation for routine, planned, urgent and emergency admissions on a daily basis.
- Supporting staff/wards in organising the transfer of patients internally.
- To collect transport booking requests from wards to ensure timely and appropriate transport is booked in advance/or on the day to support patient flow.
- Identify patients whose discharge can be expedited earlier in the day.
- To assist in the review of side room capacity in the Trust
- To be an active participant in the delivery of the Command Centre “Outstanding Decision Making” programme
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To support those in Charge of Wards and Departments by:
- Develop effective working relationships based on trust and co-operation.
- Identify the actions necessary to facilitate efficient and effective processes; this includes expediting TTOs and transport for earlier discharges, identifying patients who can be cared for in different settings such as Intermediate care service, supporting staff on a busy ward to receive a patient from ED.
- Liaising with General Managers, Matrons and Clinical Patient Flow Managers as required.
- Liaising with clinical operational staff and with discharge co-ordinators as required.
- Reflect on management of situations and learn from experience.
