Job summary

Provide general assistance to the Practice Team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. Above all we are looking for kindness and compassion.

Main duties of the job

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and other visitors to the Practice.

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.

In line with practice procedures, ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need an urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.

Explain Practice arrangements and formal NHS requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary/emergency cover and ensure procedures and paperwork are completed.

On a daily basis work on Anima triage to ensure prompt responses to patient requests.

Receive and make telephone calls as required. Use of the care navigation toolkit to advise. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt delivery to the most appropriate person.

Refer repeat prescription requests on to the prescription clerks.

Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non-General Medical Services) services, accept payment, and issue receipts/invoices for same when necessary.

Enter patient information on to the computer as required.

Maintain a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.

Be able to cover all reception positions. Maintain a working knowledge of unfamiliar tasks.

About us

We are part of the Wantage PCN in the health centre, working alongside Church Street Practice. The Health Centre has had an extension built very recently offering extra capacity.

Our patient list size is approximately 16,000.

We offer free parking at the Health Centre, regular staff lunches and social events.

We have a large clinical team consisting of 9 doctors, both partners and salaried GP's, a nursing team, pharmacy team, physio team and an admin and secretarial teams.
