We have an exciting opportunity for a Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team on a permanent basis.
The successful candidate would be based within the children’s unit but will be expected to undertake home and school visits. The children’s unit at Macclesfield District General Hospital (MDGH) includes a 21 bedded unit, with integral observation beds, children’s out-patients, Specialist Nurses for Diabetes, Epilepsy and Respiratory, a Research Nurse and a dedicated team of Children’s Community Nurses to facilitate health care for children in their own homes.
We are looking for a Children’s nurse, with experience of caring for children with diabetes and managing their own workload. The successful applicant will need to be a team player with excellent communication skills and some staff supervision experience. The post holder will be expected to work week days to cover the diabetes service but may need to be flexible to meet the demands of the service. A full clean driving license is essential as is access to a car as the job will entail home and school visits.

Main duties of the job
The Paediatric Diabetes Nurse Specialist will provide specialist education and nursing support to children and young people with diabetes and their families /carers.
Encourage and support independence so that the young person is able to self-manage their diabetes when appropriate.
To work within the multi-disciplinary team in developing high quality patient centred care ensuring that this is incorporated within the directorate and Trust objectives.
