The Research Nurse will work collaboratively within a team working on both commercial and non-commercial research studies within a flexible research workforce covering a 7 day 24 hour service..
We are looking to recruit and experienced nurse within the speciality of Cancer to move across Oncology / Haematology. You do not need to be experienced in research although advantageous, however a strong clinical background knowledge in cancer is a essential requirement.
Main duties of the job
The post holder holds responsibility for supporting the research delivery team in the co-ordination, recruitment, care and monitoring of research subjects at the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The care of research subjects is carried out in accordance with current research governance and legislation.
The post holder will work closely with the senior research nurses and clinical lead in the completion of comprehensive documentation required by the Ethics Committees – local and national, for ethical review and approval of the research study.
The post holder adheres to Departmental and Trust policies, established health professional procedures and practices and research laws and national guidance.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- The Research Nurse will support programmes for recruitment, enrolment, screening and retention of research subjects in accordance with protocol and International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) Good Clinical Practice standards.
- The Research Nurse will support the team in the planning and implementation of protocols in accordance with research parameters as set out by the Chief and Principal Investigators.
- The Research Nurse will contribute to appropriate data collection systems for patient data and monitoring data, in accordance with the research protocol.
- The Research Nurse maintains complete source documentation and Site Investigators File for Chief and Principal Investigators and Regulatory Bodies.
- The Research Nurse maintains liaison on a regular basis with the Chief Investigator for the duration of the study. In addition he/she may be required to attend ongoing presentations and lectures to maintain knowledge base of developments within the field of the Study.
- The Research Nurse collaborates with Investigators, Regulatory Bodies and Ancillary departments.
- The Research Nurse maintains good liaison with research subjects using excellent communication skills by telephone or face to face, in either hospital or community setting, keeping documented evidence of the same.
- The Research Nurse represents and promotes the objectives of the research study to internal/external constituencies appropriately.
- The Research Nurse will support the team in planning and organising complex study programmes and interventions using efficient workflow schedules and maintains accurate documented evidence of the same.
- The Research Nurse has a responsibility for explaining clinical aspects of the study to the patients involved in the study within their frame of competence with the support of the research and clinical teams.
- The Research Nurse requires knowledge of the research process to enable him/her to undertake high quality research, equality and equity to patients.
