Job summary
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is recruiting to a substantive Consultant Oncologist (Breast) posts (10 PAs) to join a large, dynamic and forward thinking oncology service.
The successful post holders will join an established and supportive consultant body delivering high quality systemic anti cancer therapy across multiple hospital sites..

Main duties of the job
*Deliver specialist inpatient and outpatient oncology care, including independent consultant led clinics
*Prescribe and manage systemic anti cancer treatments in line with Trust protocols
*Participate fully in tumour site multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings across the Trust
*Contribute to Acute Oncology services and inpatient ward attending commitments
*Participate in the consultant on call rota (1 in 14)
*Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and clinical supervision
*Engage in clinical governance, audit and service development activity
*Contribute to and support clinical research and trial recruitment, with opportunities to act as Principal Investigator
*Develop subspecialty interests and, where appropriate, undertake additional leadership roles within the department

Job responsibilities
The site specialist interests will be agreed on acceptance of the post but will require specialist oncology tumour site experience and delivery of systemic treatment.
Clinical
The appointees should be able to demonstrate experience and specific interest in the management of Breast, Lung, Urology and Hepatobilliary tumour sites. The successful candidates will be encouraged to develop disease specific areas of interest, working alongside the current Oncology team. In keeping with the department's ambition as a teaching hospital, the appointees will have the opportunity to engage in research and would be encouraged to utilise world class expertise based on Campus within the University of Birmingham (UoB), the Cancer Research Clinical Trials Unit and the Institute for Translational Medicine to progress the research strategy under the umbrella of Birmingham Health Partners.
Inpatients
The appointees will participate in the on-call rota, supported by and working with clinical teams trust-wide. They will be responsible for managing a cohort of inpatients and providing specialist liaison advice.
Outpatients
The appointees will be expected to participate in a number of clinics per week, predominantly dealing with their respective sub-specialties as per job plans, but also consideration for other subspecialist workload could be considered, depending on applicant's experience to date. The delivery of outpatient activity will include opportunities to support clinical trial recruitment and PI roles within the department.
There will be the integrated weekly multidisciplinary team meeting, plus monthly quality meetings, educational sessions, quarterly audit meetings and mortality and morbidity meetings.
For the ward attending commitments, the appointees will be expected to provide reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
