Main duties of the job

  • Act as an effective role model for all staff. Deliver specialised care in keeping with the needs and wishes of patients and their families. Provide leadership and demonstrate a high quality of clinical care and practice Liaise with other health care professionals regarding the needs of patients and implement appropriate action. .    Responsible for maintaining accurate records in accordance with current practice. Monitor and organise Bookwise and authorise room bookings for the jigsaw . .    Facilitate effective patient care in the outpatient setting. Assist in the setting of clinical standards within the UHD trust  to improve the quality of patient care. Actively participate in clinical governance agenda and use this as a base for improving standards of care. To actively facilitate a progressive learning environment for all grades of staff which will raise standards of professionalism and contribute to the development of nursing. To ensure that IT training and use of different programmes is accessed safely in accordance with clinical governance. Reporting all complaints and untoward occurrences.
  • Be aware of and comply with NMC Code of Professional Conduct for Nurse, Midwives & Health Visitors.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Take responsibility for the team and take charge of the ward in the absence of the person who has continued responsibility.

Plan, organise and deploy staff according to competencies and workload in order to meet patient needs.

Participate in the management and development of the outpatients, sharing information and ideas that promote quality and value.

Recruit, retain and motivate a team with the right mix of skills to provide optimum care to patients and their families.

Conduct and participate in appraisals / performance review programmes in accordance with ward / unit / hospital policy.

Provide access to counselling and psychological support for team members, patients and their families to create a caring environment.

Act as a mentor and facilitator for nursing staff within the clinical area.

Act as a preceptor, assessor, mentor for students, registered staff and

non-professional staff
