To manage a caseload of clients with eating disorders and complex needs, using evidence based / client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. To provide leadership for students and / or junior staff, through supervision and appraisal. To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of OT / MDT services, holding responsibility for defined projects. To regularly supervise OT students on practice placement.
Main duties of the job
To select and apply Occupational Therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the service user in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure.
To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions, in collaboration with the service user client, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals
To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for service users with multiple needs in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
To work with service users in a way which actively promotes their social inclusion and recovery.
To effectively work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to / implement core decisions with regards to service users care programmes
To demonstrate the ability to / undertake to initiate, plan and implement the induction, training and education of students and other staff
To actively participate in and be responsible for relevant planning, evaluation and audit of practice, clinical pathways and protocols within service area and corporate OT as required.
Co-ordinate day-to-day activities of junior staff, Technical Instructors and volunteer staff where applicable.
To engage in and develop or broaden research skills through involvement in local audit and research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

To manage a caseload as agreed with Head OT / Team Lead Ward Manager and Lead Occupational Therapist
To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions, in collaboration with the service user client, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals
To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for service users with multiple needs in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
To demonstrate and apply a broad level of understanding of the effect of disability and recommend adaptations to the service users physical and social environment as needed.
To work with service users in a way which actively promotes their social inclusion and recovery.
To effectively work as a member of the multi-disciplinary
To effectively work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to / implement core decisions with regards to service users care programmes
To undertake the professional supervision and appraisal of junior staff as delegated by a senior member of staff
To demonstrate the ability to / undertake to initiate, plan and implement the induction, training and education of students and other staff
To actively participate in and be responsible for relevant planning, evaluation and audit of practice, clinical pathways and protocols within service area and corporate OT as required.

Experience
Essential
- Extensive post registration clinical experience as an OT including individual and group work
- Working with mental health service users (pre or post qualification)
- Experience of supervising junior staff and students
Desirable
- Experience of meal support for those with an eating disorder.
- Experience of specialist Mental Health settings – eating disorders
Qualifications

- Registered Occupational Therapist
Desirable
- Membership of OT professional body and / or special interest group
Knowledge/Skills
Essential
- Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions and outcome measures, relevant to client group.
- Skills required to understand the dynamics of a team and have the ability to work effectively within that

- Effective / high level verbal and written communication skills
