Main duties of the job
The post holder will deliver a range of OH activities making clinical judgements, and provide technical advice and support as defined by their knowledge, skills and experience.
They will plan and organise activities or programmes for their own area, of work; and work with the Team Leader / Senior Management Team on service changes impacting outside their own direct area of activity.
The post holder must comply with all CNWL and OHS policy and inform the Team Leader / Senior Management Team immediately of any difficulties in undertaking the requirements of the post.
In accordance with the CNWL policy the post holder will be provided with appropriate opportunities and support for their professional development and training.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will hold a post graduate OH Specialist Practitioners Qualification (SCPHN) and have a minimum of two years practical experience within the specialty having developed specialist theoretical knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices.

- Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance, including confidentiality, equality and workplace health considerations
- Knowledge of occupational health principles including fitness for work, health protection and health promotion
- Knowledge of professional record keeping and clinical governance requirements
- Understanding of the need to escalate complex, high-risk or contentious cases appropriately
Desirable
- Knowledge of health surveillance techniques and occupational exposure management
Previous Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in Occupational Health or a closely related field
- Experience of managing a clinical caseload
- Experience of sickness absence management and return to work support
Desirable
- Experience of health surveillance programmes and workplace risk assessment processes
- Experience of contributing to audit, service improvement or governance activity
Skills and Abilities
Essential
- Ability to manage and prioritise own occupational health caseload
- Ability to undertake fitness for work activity within defined policies and frameworks
- Ability to provide clear written and verbal advice to managers and employees
- Ability to support workplace adjustments and return to work planning
- Good IT skills, including use of electronic occupational health records and standard office systems

- Registered General Nurse
- Undertaken a post graduate Occupational Health Specialist Practitioners Qualification (SCPHN) Health related subject
