Are you a qualified screener ready to take the next step into service supervision and management of the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme?

We are looking for energetic, caring and self-motivated people to be part of assuring the quality and activity of the front-line services of the Newborn Hearing Screening service in Barts Health.

The Audiology and Hearing Service provides hearing screening services to screen the hearing of all newborn babies across Barts Health.  The successful candidate will join our team, based at the Maternity and Special Care Baby Units at our Hospitals including outpatient locations.

Your main duties will be to supervise, line manage and provide training day-to-day to the Tower Hamlets Newborn Hearing Screening team, comprised of screeners and an administrator. You will also be expected to input into future planning of the service with the other Assistant Local Coordinators and Local Coordinator, looking to improve and develop our provision in line with Quality Assurance standards expected by our Commissioners.

The Barts Health Audiology service covers 5 districts in East London - Tower Hamlets, City and Hackney, Newham, Waltham Forest & Redbridge. Our team is made up of Audiologists, Assistants, Audiological Scientists and clerical staff providing diagnostic, rehabilitative and support services for people with hearing or balance problems. Newborn Hearing Screening is part of the wider service.

The NHSP Assistant Local Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day delivery and supervision of staff providing Newborn Hearing Screen to babies born within or resident of the localities based within Barts Health, providing local supervision, training and expertise in the assurance of protocols and quality standards to all aspects of NHSP.

Essential

  • Good planning, organisational, and prioritising skills
  • Strong communication skills with ability to adapt to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to work on own initiative and take routine decisions
  • Ability to take on feedback and reflect on own skills/development needs with transparency & balance
  • Experience of accurate record keeping

Desirable

  • Presentation skills
  • Supporting the training of new screeners and staff

Experience

Essential

  • Has worked as a newborn hearing screener in ward and outpatient settings

Desirable

  • Management/supervisory experience commensurate to past levels of responsibility
  • Observations of Audiology clinics

Qualifications

Essential

  • Completion of the National Newborn Hearing Screening Program screener training including practical and written assessments
  • Good oral and written skills, numerate and literate
  • Competent IT skills, particularly Microsoft office, internet and using spreadsheets.
  • Completion of, or evidence of work towards, GCSE, NNEB, ONC or relevant NVQ.

Desirable

  • ECDL or equivalent ICT qualification.
  • Fluent in community language(s)
  • Completion of courses related to deaf awareness and / or sign language.
