Job overview
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton is pleased to offer a Band 5 opportunity for motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurses to join our Neonatal Transitional Care service across Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and Queen’s Hospital Burton (QHB).
Our Royal Derby Hospital site hosts a 26-cot Local Neonatal Unit (Level 2), providing intensive, high dependency, and special care for new-born infants. As part of our service development, we have recently opened 10 Transitional Care cots within the postnatal ward for infants meeting BAPM Transitional Care criteria.
At Queen’s Hospital Burton, our current 8-cot Special Care Unit (Level 1) is a purpose-built neonatal facility, incorporating 4 dedicated Transitional Care cots located alongside the postnatal ward and SCBU.
The Transitional Care service is designed to provide neonatal care at the birthing person’s bedside, supporting family-centred care and reducing the need for separation, ensuring babies receive appropriate care within the most suitable environment.
We are seeking experienced Band 5 Registered Nurses from adult or paediatric backgrounds who have a strong interest in neonatal care. Successful candidates will be flexible and committed to working within a 24-hour, 7-day service and motivated to develop their skills within this specialist area. You will be supported by a friendly, supportive, and dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality care.
Main duties of the job

- Promoting and embedding Family Integrated Care principles, recognising and supporting the family as an essential part of the care team
- Providing care that encourages bonding and minimises separation between the birthing person and their baby
- Supporting and advocating for infant feeding in line with Baby Friendly Initiative standards, including the promotion and support of breastfeeding for all infants, regardless of clinical need or gestation
