The Deputy Matron works alongside the Neonatal Matron with the aim to support and develop the outstanding Neonatal services at UCLH. The Neonatal team work within the UCLH Perinatal Team to provide collaborative care to babies and families who are cared for within our services.
This role is both managerial and clinical, therefore would appeal to those for strive to maintain clinical skills whilst gaining/building on managerial skills.

The post holder provides forward-thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing Team at all levels within the Neonatal unit and Transitional care ensuring nursing care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively. The post holder will have primary responsibility for timely rostering and all associated requirements including temporary staffing within the department. With the support of Human Resources the post holder will be required to undertake responsibilities in relation to performance management, employee led complaints and all associated HR process in accordance with Trust policy. The post holder contributes to the ongoing implementation of the nursing and midwifery strategy, ensuring achievement of its objectives and proactively modernising midwifery and nursing roles in accordance with the needs of service users and service requirements. They will be responsible for maintaining quality, performance, service improvement and transformation and play a key role in the progression of initiatives to further improve Neonatal services. They will work collaboratively with a focus on providing highly visible and credible clinical leadership, to ensure that the patient experience within the Neonatal Services is of the highest possible standard at all times ensuring that this is fairly and accurately reflected within the patient feedback, friends and family quality metrics... continued below...

The post holder will be further responsible to drive action planning in relation to patient safety initiatives, all aspects of clinical governance and care quality improvements within the department, taking an active role within clinical governance and divisional Quality and safety meetings, deputising for the Matron where required.
The post holder will contribute, in partnership with the Neonatal Matron, Neonatal Clinical Consultant Lead, Divisional Clinical Director and Divisional Management team, in developing the Division’s strategic direction and policy framework, ensuring that the Division contributes significantly to the achievement of corporate objectives. The post holder will be responsible to ensure that effective governance arrangements are implemented, appropriately maintained and shared learning is disseminated within the nursing and midwifery team and clinical governance groups, with key agreements for on-going action planning in relation to improvements, change of practice required.
