Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised, and proactive Senior Medical Secretary to join our Paediatric Liver and Renal team at Leeds Children's Hospital.This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced medical secretary or administrative professional to play a key role in supporting consultants, clinicians, and the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering outstanding patient care.
Working in a busy and rewarding environment, you will provide comprehensive secretarial and personal assistant support, manage patient pathways, coordinate complex diaries, oversee clinical correspondence, and help ensure patients receive timely and efficient care throughout their treatment journey.
Main duties of the job
As a senior member of the administrative team, you will supervise and support a small team of medical secretaries and clerical staff, helping to maintain high standards of service delivery while driving continuous improvement in administrative processes.
You will also act as the service MDT Co-ordinator, supporting data quality initiatives, producing reports, and ensuring accurate clinical data is maintained for both internal and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have excellent organisational, communication, and prioritisation skills, with experience of working in a healthcare administrative or medical secretarial environment. You will be able to work independently, manage competing demands, and build effective working relationships with patients, families, clinicians, and colleagues across the organisation.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to consultants and the wider clinical team within the Paediatric Liver and Renal Service. They will be responsible for managing patient pathways, coordinating clinics and appointments, monitoring waiting times, handling patient and family enquiries, and ensuring clinical correspondence is processed within Trust standards.
The post holder will also supervise a small team of medical secretaries and clerical staff, support service improvement initiatives, coordinate multidisciplinary team (MDT) data management, and work closely with clinicians and managers to ensure the smooth running of the service and the delivery of high-quality patient care.
