We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Medical Secretary to join our friendly admin team within Community Musculoskeletal (MSK) Services based in Tamworth and Lichfield.

You will assist with the high-quality delivery of a comprehensive secretarial and administrative service to the Musculoskeletal Services Tamworth + Lichfield.  The post holder must be able to communicate sensitively and effectively with a wide range of people, including patients, medical staff and colleagues.  Typing correspondence within performance targets as appropriate.  The post holder will be required to cover for colleagues during absence and work flexible hours when necessary.

The role is for 27 hours per week but possible for job sharing if more than one successful applicant.

Based at Sir Robert Peel Hospital, Tamworth. There may be occasional travel to our site in Lichfield for the purpose of staff meetings.  Following training, it may be possible for some of the role to be work from home.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide high quality Medical Secretarial support to our MSK service to ensure the delivery of a comprehensive administrative service
  • To send off diagnostic requests and log accordingly
  • Liaise with other internal and external services as required to ensure that all test results and investigation reports are received in line with target agreements
  • Ensure that all test results and investigations, reports received for patients on the waiting list are brought to the attention of the relevant clinician in order for the clinician to dictate the next stage of the patient pathway
  • Responsibility for the handling of telephone and other communications with sensitivity and confidentiality, using personal judgement and acquired knowledge
  • To ensure systems are in place to deliver a high standard of communication to build and maintain good working relationship
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures and support in their development and implementation within own working practices to improve patient care and processes to continually improve service delivery
  • High level knowledge of multiple patient systems and packages within the role.
  • Train and mentor new starters within the team and provide on-going support as required.
  • Transcribing and typing of minutes.
  • Accurate typing of complex patient letters using audio dictation recorded by clinicians, of which include the use of medical terminology; creation of letters as requested by the Clinical Team.
