Main duties of the job
The Medical Secretary provides comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to consultants, speciality doctors and clinical teams within Community Paediatrics. The post holder is responsible for managing correspondence, diary co-ordination, patient administration, referrals and medico-legal documents, ensuring services are delivered efficiently, professionally and within agreed timescales. The role acts as a key point of contact for families, clinicians, GPs and partner organisations, maintaining high standards of confidentiality, customer service and administrative quality.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Provide a high- quality secretarial service to consultants, specialty doctors, and clinical teams, ensuring workloads are prioritised and completed within agreed timescales.
- Act as the first point of contact for Consultants and the team, responding professionally to enquiries from GPs, families, staff and external agencies
- To maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Produce accurate clinical and non- clinical correspondence, reports and urgent letters using audio transcription and digital systems
- Manage incoming correspondence, referrals and investigation reports, ensuring timely action and escalation where required.
- Maintain effective working relationships with clinicians, managers, administrative colleagues and wider multidisciplinary teams
