Job overview

The Medical Device Analyst post is responsible for managing, analysing, and optimising medical device usage, maintenance, and compliance within the Whittington NHS Health Trust. The role ensures that medical equipment is properly maintained, cost-effective, and compliant with regulatory requirements.

Main duties of the job

Device Management & Analysis

Maintain an up-to-date inventory of medical devices.

Analyse equipment performance, utilization, and lifecycle data.

Identify trends in device failures and recommend improvements.

Maintenance & Compliance Oversight

Monitor planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedules.

Ensure compliance with NHS, CQC, MHRA, and OEM maintenance requirements.

Work with internal teams and external vendors to resolve maintenance issues.

Contract & Vendor Management

Support procurement and management of OEM and third-party service contracts.

Track service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring service reports are loaded and up to date.

Assist in negotiations for cost-effective maintenance solutions.

Technical & Financial Reporting

Provide data-driven reports on device reliability, downtime, and costs.

Support with the Trusts RFID asset tracking system

Assist in budgeting and forecasting for medical device expenditures.

Support capital planning/ordering for equipment replacement and upgrades.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Liaise with clinical teams to understand equipment needs and challenges.

Work with biomedical engineering teams for technical support.

Coordinate and support with finance and procurement teams on purchasing decisions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Management To gain an understanding for the clinical application for the medical equipment maintained. To ensure patient safety, by making certain that all medical equipment is maintained. To assist with clinical staff and clinical departments the scheduling of medical equipment maintenance.

To prioritise, plan and organise own work schedules adjusting for emergency work. To propose and implement changes in policy or work procedures-instructions within own area. To be responsible for ordering spares and consumables within budget guidelines. To keep the medical equipment database up to date. To contribute and manage objectives as set within the Quality Management System.

Advisory To assist with clinical staff on the safe use of medical equipment. To assist in deciding whether medical equipment should be removed from clinical use.

Education & Training  To undertake formal training courses to maintain and develop  To undertake training of less experience or new staff.
