We are looking for a highly motivated and organised individual to play a key role in supporting our Lung Cancer Screening programme. This is a fantastic chance to make a real difference in early cancer detection and patient outcomes.

As a Patient Administrator, you will play a central role within the Lung Cancer Screening Programme, acting as the first point of contact for patients and supporting them through the screening pathway.

The role involves carrying out Telephone Lung Health Checks (TLHCs), helping patients understand the screening process, gathering relevant clinical information, and supporting timely progression through the pathway. You will work closely with the wider screening team to ensure patients receive clear information, timely appointments, and a positive experience throughout.

Main duties of the job

The Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) Pathway Senior Administrator plays a key role in supporting delivery of a complex, nationally mandated screening programme, requiring detailed knowledge of the LCS pathway, national data standards, and quality assurance requirements. The post holder will work within a team to support and coordinate participant pathways, support clinical decision-making processes through accurate data management, and ensure compliance with national timelines, performance indicators, and audit requirements.

The post holder will be expected to work to agreed programme targets and productivity measures that support delivery of the Lung Cancer Screening programme and achievement of national trajectory requirements. This includes managing a defined level of daily participant contact activity, such as telephone outreach for Targeted Lung Health Checks, and contributing to service reach, uptake, and timely pathway progression. Productivity expectations will be monitored through routine performance review and adjusted in line with service need, pathway complexity, and participant requirements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Communication

  • Deal with sensitive situations, including considering how the impact of any changes being made through improvement projects may affect the current working arrangements and practices of staff and manage communication methods accordingly. •    To answer telephone and email queries from patients, colleagues, and external providers

Reporting / analysis

  • Take responsibility for leading on specified work streams that support the improvement of the LCS data •    To evaluate the working systems and existing processes within LCS          programme and redesign processes requiring improvement whilst also addressing any training and development requirements

Administrative duties

  • To provide high quality day to day administrative support to the LCS team, managing own workload, and using judgement and experience to help prioritise work. •    To attend MDT meetings as required and take relevant meeting notes.

Maintain reporting systems

  • Operate SystmOne in order to verify registration and clinical details and update as appropriate. •    Update all episodes with screening results in accordance with local and programme guidelines and change and make appointments in response to telephone enquiries.

  • Adhere to Health and Safety Trust legislation and infection control policies.
  • To comply at all times with any regulations issued by the Trust, especially those governing Health and Safety at Work and Infection Prevention and Control to ensure that any defects which may affect safety at work are brought to the attention of the appropriate manager.
