This is an exciting opportunity to join the UK's largest endocrine surgical service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the world's leading Academic Health Science Centres. The successful candidate will work within a nationally recognised multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality care to patients from North West London, across the UK and internationally.

The role offers exposure to a wide range of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal conditions, including complex and specialist cases in which the service has established expertise. Clinical activity includes outpatient clinics across Trust sites and operative practice at Hammersmith Hospital, supported by close collaboration with colleagues from Endocrinology, Renal and Transplant Medicine, Cardiothoracic Surgery and HPB Surgery.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery and future development of one of the UK's leading endocrine surgical services. They will provide expert care for patients with thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal disorders, undertaking outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary team working and operative activity across the Trust's endocrine surgery service.

In addition to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, the post holder will contribute to the strategic leadership of the department, supporting service innovation, emerging technologies and continuous improvement initiatives. The role offers opportunities to participate in research, teaching and training, including the supervision and development of medical students, resident doctors and other healthcare professionals.

The consultant will work closely with clinical, managerial and nursing colleagues to maintain excellent service performance, support clinical governance, contribute to audit and quality improvement programmes, and help shape the future direction of the specialty. We are seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative clinician with excellent communication, leadership and team-working skills, who is committed to delivering outstanding patient outcomes and advancing endocrine surgical care within a nationally recognised centre of excellence.

The successful candidate will join a highly specialised endocrine surgical service and provide expert clinical care for patients with thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal disorders. The role includes outpatient clinics across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust sites, elective operating lists at Hammersmith Hospital, inpatient care and participation in multidisciplinary team meetings to support the management of complex cases.

The post holder will contribute to the strategic development and future leadership of the department, supporting service innovation, the introduction of new technologies and the continuous improvement of patient outcomes. They will work closely with colleagues across Endocrinology, Renal and Transplant Medicine, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery to deliver integrated, patient-centred care.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, the consultant will contribute to research, teaching and training activities, including the supervision of medical students and postgraduate trainees. They will participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development initiatives, ensuring compliance with national standards and best practice. The post holder will also support service performance, workforce management, waiting-list optimisation and the delivery of high-quality, efficient and sustainable endocrine surgical services.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

AUDIT

Essential

  • Understanding of clinical audit principles
  • Experience of data collection and submission to national registries and audits.

LANGUAGE

Essential

  • Ability to speak and write English to the standard required to fulfil the duties of the post.

LEADERSHIP

Essential

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, develop and manage the performance of colleagues
  • Experience of staff management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • On the GMC Register with a Licence to Practise, or eligible for GMC registration and a Licence to Practise.
  • On the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of admission to the Specialist Register at the date of interview, or eligible for specialist registration
  • Appropriate Royal College Membership

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Essential

  • Post-CCT in Endocrine Surgery or equivalent recognised certification
  • Competent in thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery, including experience in re-operative parathyroid surgery and laparoscopic adrenal surgery
  • IT skills and computer literacy

TEACHING & TRAINING

Essential

  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, and junior medical staff.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

Essential

  • Evidence of academic achievement appropriate for appointment at consultant level within a tertiary endocrine surgery service
