    All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: That applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or have achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application - Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. (An overall minimum score of 7.5). If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples they must provide supporting evidence.

Job summary

This is a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Rheumatologist, with special interests in experience and interest in a subspecialty area. This post will be available from October 2026 for a period of 6 months This post will deliver 10PAs supporting the Rheumatology team. The post-holder will provide Clinical duties, mainly outpatient based in general and subspecialty Rheumatology. There will be opportunities to deliver service improvements. The post will be based at Chapel Allerton Hospital.

Main duties of the job

To deliver care to patients attending Rheumatology outpatients clinics at CAH Out-patient clinics, specifically including ultrasound, early arthritis and general rheumatology but can also be expanded to other subspeciality clinics within the constraints of the job plan To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the CSU and across the trust. To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Rheumatology department. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department. Experience in rheumatology research will be valued for this.

Locum Consultant in the department of Rheumatology

The successful applicant should hold accreditation in MRCP in the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants should have established skills across Rheumatology. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

The Rheumatology department in Leeds is internationally renowned for treatment and research and offers the highest levels of service, and access to world class treatment in Trauma & Orthopaedics.

The Clinical Service Unit at Chapel Allerton Hospital consists of the Elective Orthopaedic Centre, Rheumatology and Dermatology and complex rehabilitation services.

The Rheumatology department is predominantly based at Chapel Allerton Hospital, Leeds. We have dedicated facilities for outpatient clinics, including imaging facilities with MSK ultrasound in clinic, inpatient wards and a day case unit. In addition to 20 substantive consultants there is a strong middle grade workforce of specialist trainees and clinical nurse specialists.

The department is closely linked to the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre and the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine, University of Leeds, which are both on site at Chapel Allerton Hospital.

The department provides secondary and tertiary services including as a regional specialist centre of excellence.
