Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in CYP Eating Disorders
Full-Time 10PAs, 12 Months Fixed-Term
This is a fixed term locum post for a CAMHS Consultant psychiatrist within the CYP Community Eating Disorders Team, working alongside a specialist MDT team. The CYP-ED team is a highly supportive environment and offers a manageable, stimulating workload.
The post includes 1PA for a Clinical Academic role, which creates opportunities to coordinate research work, support best practice and teaching, and work on quality improvement. In the context of the 1PA dedicated to the Clinical Academic role, the successful applicant may choose to use a further 1 SPA out of their general 2.5 SPA entitlement, for clinical academic work.

Main duties of the job
The post holder joins a team of 7 Consultant Psychiatrists in the all age Vincent Square Eating Disorder Service. Every Consultant has a unique leadership role within the clinical teams/pathways for which they are responsible.
The post would be suitable for someone considering starting a career in CYP Eating Disorders, or for an established CAMHS consultant who is looking for an attractive new opportunity.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide clinical leadership within the CYP Community and ICT teams.
- To provide consultant responsibility for patient care within service
- Consultation to other members of the multidisciplinary team regarding the management of urgent assessments and risk.
- To diagnose patients with an ICD10 code at assessment/assessment meeting and ensure that these are documented appropriately, along with all other mandatory data recording
- Participation in the weekly referral & assessment and MDT meetings, providing leadership, supervision and consultation for the team.
- To work with lead therapists and consultant colleagues to manage flow of referrals, assessments and waiting list
- To provide comprehensive initial assessments for complex clients
- To provide psychiatric review and management of CYP ED team patients
- Develop and review protocols with local paediatric services.
- Provide Responsible Clinician cover for paediatric wards
- Accessing Tier 4 provision as clinically appropriate and reviewing the management and care of the young person during inpatient admission to ensure the most effective use of resources and appropriate early discharge.
- To develop and sustain good working relationships and effective MEED pathways with Paediatrics.
- To contribute to CPA meetings, as appropriate.
- To contribute to MHA assessments as appropriate.
- To support the maintenance of a psychologically minded clinic culture.
- To regularly attend Staff Group, Continuing Professional Development sessions and Consultant meetings.
- To manage, and provide training and psychiatric casework supervision for Psychiatry trainees seeking special interest sessions in the service.
- To provide cross cover for Consultant Psychiatrist colleagues in the Eating Disorder Service.
- To be an active member of the service line Senior Management Team.
- To collaborate with multidisciplinary team colleagues in the ongoing development of the service. Participation in the development of new models of service to improve delivery and outcome, taking into account the views of commissioners, service users and evidence of best practice.
- Participation in development of clinical protocols as required.
- To maintain accurate and up to date clinical records.
- To participate in the administration patient information systems and ensure that data are entered in accordance with service policies and guidance.
- To contribute to collection and monitoring of Clinical Outcome data across the service.
- To liaise with statutory and non-statutory sector agencies concerning the treatment and management of patients.
- To ensure discharges are managed in accordance with service policies and guidance.
- To complete and contribute to the completion of Serious Incident Reports as required.
- To work in accordance with service policies and guidelines.

- To lead or contribute to research, audit, and service evaluation projects across the Community Child and Adolescent Eating Disorder Service (CYP-ED), examining clinical outcomes, treatment effectiveness, patient experience, and service delivery models.
- To support the systematic collection, monitoring, and interpretation of clinical outcome measures and service data to inform patient care, service development, and commissioning priorities within the community eating disorder pathway.
- To promote and integrate evidence-based practice within the multidisciplinary team, ensuring that emerging research findings inform assessment, treatment planning, and pathway development across community services.
- To contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance activities, and service evaluations that support safe, effective, and person-centred care for children, young people, and their families.
- To support the provision of teaching, supervision, and training to medical students, trainees, and multidisciplinary colleagues, and to collaborate with regional networks, academic institutions, and partner agencies to support service development, research dissemination, and workforce development.

- Inclusion on the Child and Adolescent Specialist Register (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date)
