Job overview

The department has developed a highly professional and commercially focused approach to delivering the highest standards of patient-centred care.

The current junior medical staffing for Trauma & Orthopaedics across both sites includes several Specialist Trainee (North West Thames), Specialty Doctor, Core Trainee, Junior Clinical Fellow and FY1 posts.

There is a Trauma Co-ordinator and Trauma Nurse Practitioner on each site. Each consultant reports professionally and managerially to the Divisional Management team, via their Clinical Service Lead and General Manager. You will be expected to agree annual objectives with your Clinical Service Lead and General Manager with fit with the needs of the service, division and trust.

Main duties of the job

Please refer to the chart in the job description for an indicative job plan outlining the allocation of programmed activities. Please note that this is a provisional plan and will be agreed with the post holder in due course.

The job plan may be subject to future amendment to reflect the needs of the service, following consultation with the post holder.

Please note that the post may include on-calls and will entail cross-site working between the Chelsea, West Middlesex and NWL Elective Orthopaedic Centre sites.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be required to contribute to the upper limb and trauma service in a cross-site capacity, as well as at the newly opened Northwest London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC). The successful candidate is expected to be fellowship trained in upper limb surgery, alongside maintaining competence in general trauma.

The role entails a strong upper-limb trauma orientation whilst it still also does include an elective commitment.

It is desirable that the post holder holds a higher clinical degree.

Candidates must demonstrate a clear commitment to service improvement, evidenced through previous audits and completed service development projects.

The successful candidate will be expected to build on established collaborative relationships within a multidisciplinary team.

They will potentially participate in a 1:8 trauma on-call rota, including weekend cover, and will contribute to audit, research, management, and ongoing service development.

Daytime trauma responsibilities include leading the trauma list, conducting ward rounds, managing referrals, assessing acute admissions, operating on trauma cases, supporting clinic activity, communicating with relatives, and contributing to teaching.
