Locum Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine

The Children's Cardiorespiratory and Intensive Care Directorate are currently seeking a full time locum paediatric respiratory consultant. The successful candidate will have a broad expertise in PRM. The candidate should have completed national grid specialist respiratory training or its equivalent and ideally have engaged in research and obtained or be engaged in achieving a higher degree.

Main duties of the job

The Evelina London Children’s Hospital is seeking 1 full-time (up to 10 PA) specialist consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. The post will join the other paediatric respiratory specialists in providing a respiratory clinical service arising from the increased number of tertiary referrals to the respiratory, airway, sleep and ventilation services and the need to provide additional support to the wide-range of specialist children’s services based at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

This new post will add additional clinical support to the general respiratory inpatient cover and outpatient general respiratory clinics. An interest in the following specialist areas is encouraged:

• Asthma and Severe and Difficult to Control Asthma Service
• The Respiratory Assessment Unit
• Long term ventilation service including existing inpatient and outpatient respiratory and long-term ventilation services and the development of a regional LTV network.
• Complex Airway & Interventional Bronchoscopy Service

The post-holder will be expected to take a role in research and development to keep the Evelina at the forefront of clinical and academic excellence, and to participate in the teaching programs of the department.

Job Summary:

• To provide children’s respiratory services to the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
• To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care
• To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
• To contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development

Provide High Quality Care to Patients

• The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice
• To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
• To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
• To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
