Job overview

This post covers a period of maternity leave (12-month FTC), with an anticipated start date of October 2026. The role will provide general cardiology cover, with a specialist interest in cardiac imaging (CT and echocardiography), and will include support for the cardio-obstetric service. The post holder will also contribute to CAS (Clinical Assessment Service) triage and will be expected to support the department's GP Cardiology service, for which internal cover arrangements are currently being identified and will be confirmed prior to the post holder's start date or at job planning.

Main duties of the job

It is expected that the applicant is trained in general cardiology with a specialist interest and experience in cardiac imaging. Experience of, and an interest in, cardio-obstetric / obstetric cardiology services is required, given the requirement to support this service as part of the post. The cardiology consultant body will support the successful candidate's continued professional development in these areas.

The primary objectives of the department that this post is intended to support are: 1. To provide excellence in patient experience and safety 2. To support the general cardiology outpatient and imaging services 3. To support the cardio-obstetric service 4. To support CAS triage and the GP Cardiology service 5. To support the Royal Free Hospital in remaining a strong organisation

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of, and interest in, cardio-obstetric / obstetric cardiology services

Desirable

  • Sub-specialty experience in pulmonary hypertension.
  • Active participation in research
  • Experience in service transformation & clinical leadership

Skills and aptitudes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team

Education & professional Qualifications

  • Full registration with GMC Specialist Register with complete CCT / CESR registration
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • Sub-specialty expertise in cardiac imaging (echocardiography and/or cardiac CT)

Desirable

  • Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
  • Experience of working in UK healthcare
