Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic consultant cardiologist who has an interest in General Cardiology and Heart Failure (inpatient and outpatient work) to enhance the existing cardiology team at Whipps Cross Hospital. The appointee will work a 10 PA job plan and the postholder will join the cardiology team at WXUH. Procedural EP sessions will be undertaken at St Bartholomew's Hospital. An interest in general cardiology alongside electrophysiology is essential. There may be the requirement to work 7 days in the future and discussions are in progress around this at present, where considerations such as time off in lieu yet to be determined.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. The successful candidate will be required to adhere to the Trust’s policy on Maintaining Medical Excellence and to be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date.

Research

Essential

  • Experience of research, presentations to learned societies on topics related to cardiology
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical/surgical problems

Knowledge

Essential

  • Widespread broad-based knowledge of General Cardiology and Electrophysiology. Broad based knowledge of the application of electrophysiology and cardiac rhythm management to a wide range of arrhythmias and cardiac conditions.

Publications

Essential

  • Demonstrate number of first name publications in indexed journals, over a variety of subjects relevant to this post.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS, or equivalent MRCP or equivalent
  • CCT (or within 6 months of date of interview) or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Higher degree, e.g. MD/PhD

Personal Skills

Essential

  • Excellent presentational and verbal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and develop medical trainees.
  • Ability to manage time well to deliver objectives of the CAG
  • Awareness of best practice through evidence based medicine, and personal drive to enact the change with the team.

Desirable

  • IT skills and computer literacy

Training Expected

Essential

  • Competent and trained In general cardiology and electrophysiology, including catheter ablation, complex device implantation, and cardiac rhythm management

Desirable

  • Accreditation/CCAD listing for EP procedures; device implantation competency
