This is an exceptional career opportunity for an experienced, highly motivated pharmacy Technician looking to further advance their career and develop leadership, technical and clinical skills within Technical Services at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will need to be flexible and organised, be able to align their values with those of the organisation, work well within a team and have a ‘can do’ positive attitude.

We are looking for an enthusiastic senior pharmacy technician to make a difference and ensure the best outcomes for the patients served by the Technical Services department.  The post holder will work to ensure the continued provision and development of high quality, comprehensive technical pharmacy service to patients. We will provide the successful candidate with a comprehensive induction covering all aspects of Trust work, support from senior pharmacy staff and an environment to develop further.

The Pharmacy Service at St George’s is highly regarded across the Trust, with over 300 staff members working closely with multi-disciplinary teams. The department is friendly, forward thinking and constantly expanding with opportunities for personal and service development including further postgraduate education.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage the operational aspects of Technical Services including CIVAS, Cytotoxic services, PN and Non-sterile services in line with national standards. •    Train pharmacy technicians and assistants in Technical Services. •    Contribute to the current processes to provide a framework for actively ensuring Technical Services is run to the highest standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), in line with MHRA licensed unit requirements and Regional (SPS) QA guidance. •    Support the Pharmacy Team Leader – Technical Services and the QA department in maintaining a complete and accurate Quality Management System.

You will have good communication skills and be an enthusiastic educator. The ability to work autonomously and with a high level of accountability is essential.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of GMP and QAAPs and a proven ability to apply this knowledge and develop quality systems
  • Ability to work on own initiative and effectively as part of a team both within pharmacy and at multidisciplinary level
  • Ability to prioritise and plan work effectively autonomously and for a team including the ability to delegate appropriately
  • Applies sound professional judgement to technical, legal and ethical issues

Desirable

  • Familiarity with JAC, Chemocare, Episys and Ascribe (Emis) computer systems
  • Awareness of current NHS issues including national and local priorities
  • Demonstrate experience in mentorship and training skills

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of management in a MHRA licensed unit or Section 10 unit
  • Experience of investigating and translating trending data (e.g. micro data, errors, capacity)
  • Experience of maintaining QMS including QERs, CAPAs and RA
  • Experience in delivering training and education
  • Experience of identifying and managing risk in a technical setting
  • Experience in the production (writing, review and/or implementation) of guidelines, protocols or SOPs

Desirable

  • Experience of disciplinary matters and be able to impart results from them to staff in an appropriate and considered manner
  • Experience of initiating and completion of Change Controls in Technical Services, especially implementation and validation of new systems or equipment within Technical Services
  • Experience of introducing new products into Technical Services, including stability review of CIVAS and chemotherapy products
  • Experience of external audits (MHRA or Regional (SPS) QA)
  • Experience of CIVAS / PN

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Pharmacy Services Level 3 plus an accredited underpinning knowledge (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent) or equivalent
  • Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice

Desirable

  • PTQA to Certificate Level
  • PTQA to Diploma Level Diploma
  • Post Graduate certificate in management studies or equivalent short courses, or equivalent experience.
  • NVQ A1 Workplace Assessor Award or working towards practice
