The Lead Infection Prevention and Control Nurse will collaborate closely with the Director and Head of Infection Prevention and Control to develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention and control (IPC) practice. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and visitors by minimizing the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) and maintaining compliance with national and international regulatory standards.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the management of a team of infection prevention & control nurses and staff across sites, this includes both the acute and community settings.  Working within a multi disciplinary team to provide professional advice. Responsible for developing, implementing and auditing adherence to infection control policies.
  • The post holder is responsible for the assessment of training needs for all control of infection related issues, planning, implementing and evaluating the education and training of all disciplines of staff across all sites in matters relating to infection prevention & control.
  • The post holder will be responsible for promoting and developing best practice in the field of infection prevention & control control through creating and maintaining a culture of effective health care amongst Trust staff.
  • Work jointly with both the DIPC (Director of Infection Prevention and Control) and Head of Infection Prevention & Control to develop a strategy and action plan for infection prevention and control in the Trust.  Ensure all staff are working towards these objectives and to demonstrate year on year improvement.
  • To lead and/or coordinate delegated infection prevention & control projects
  • Deputise for the DIPC and Head of Infection Prevention & Control at meetings within and out with the Trust, as requested by the DIPC and/or Head

  • Ensure/organise the provision of a 7 day service
  • Deputise for the DIPC and Head of Infection Prevention & Control at meetings within and out with the Trust, as requested by the DIPC and/or Head
