Trust Grade Junior Doctors in Neuroscience (Neurology)

WEF 5th August 2026 for 3 months to 3rd November 2026

Applications are invited for the position of junior Trust Grade in Neurosciences, the successful candidate will be based within the Neurology department.This post will be working with the trainees who are at the following levels F2, Core and ST1/2 at this large specialist centre.

These posts will offer extensive experience caring for patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions. There will be opportunities to become involved in audit and to attend theatre and/or clinic. Clinical teaching will be provided.

Although this post is not officially approved for training, it is suitable for doctors interested in gaining UK neurological experience to then apply for training positions in neurology related specialties, or for doctors with interest in disorders of the nervous system. There are no on-call commitments attached to this post.

Main duties of the job

Post-holder will work on the wards. The morning starts with a Consultant handover meeting attended by all teams, following which each team subdivides and undertakes a ward round, clinical work emanates from this round. Also there will be opportunity to conduct emergency clinics under the close supervision of a Neurology consultant. The junior Doctor will be encouraged to take part in service development including QIP and audit.

Job responsibilities

The role is ideal for those doctors who are considering a career in Neurology related disciplines as it will allow development of specific skills in a busy and expanding specialist Neurosciences Centre.

Clinical Duties

The post-holder will be attached to Neurology. They will be responsible to the Consultant Neurologists and Registrars to provide the daily clinical care of the Neurology patients to which he/she is assigned

Person specification

Eligibility

Essential

  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
  • Evidence of current or recent (within last 3 years) employment in a UK affiliated Foundation Programme or overseas equivalent
  • 12 months experience in neurology/neurosurgery plus 12 months in other medical or surgical specialities after full GMC registration (or equivalent) and evidence of achievement of GMC standards of Good Medical Practice including: ? Make the care of your patient your first concern ? Protect and promote the health of patient and of the public ? Provide a good standard of practice and care ? Treat patients as individuals and respect their dignity ? Work in partnership with patients ? Be honest and open and act with integrity

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Clinical Knowledge & Expertise: ? Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems

Academic/Research Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence based practice, patient safety and clinical quality improvement initiative
  • Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-informed practice

Desirable

  • Evidence of involvement in an audit project, a quality improvement project, formal research project or other activity focussing on patient safety and clinical improvement that demonstrates an interest in and commitment to the specialty
