In liaison with the Ward 17 Sister and Lead Nurse; participate in the development and management of day care and 23hr services in Surgery for the Trust. Be responsible for the day to day delivery of care on Surgical Day Care/ or W17 waterfall House.
To deliver safe, effective and high quality care to children, young persons and their families.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for individuals who have excellent clinical and organisational skills and can provide leadership to the nursing team in order to ensure high quality care is delivered to our patients. The successful candidates will be required to take charge of the department on a day-to-day basis and coordinate flow of patients from arrival through to discharge whilst ensuring patient safety and the sustainability of good staff morale.
You will manage the department whilst upholding and promoting the Trust Values. Managerially the successful candidate will be expected to manage a team of staff and guide them in their personal and professional development.
We are committed to developing our nursing staff. We also offer access to PILS, EPALS and management matters. As well as lots of opportunities to develop yourself further in a chosen area via a link worker role.

- RN Part 1 – Child
Desirable
- Non-Medical Prescribing
- Paediatric Assessment Skills Course
- Tracheostomy training
- Blood Taking and Cannulation
- Course in Mentoring and Assessing in Clinical Practice
ANALYTICAL AND JUDGEMENT SKILLS
Essential
- Be able to analyse, evaluate and reflect on different situations
- Ability to think quickly and respond to a rapidly changing environment.
KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Experience at Senior Staff nurse level
- Willingness to participate fully with courses and added skills for nurse led service
- Ability to manage and lead a team
- Experience of carrying out PRDs
Desirable
- Experience of Assessing children for procedures
- Experience of Cannulating children
PERSONAL SKILLS / ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES

- High level communication skills to enable communicating with children, families and other health professionals within the Trust.

- Able to engage with IT programmes to support patient care and be able to communicate effectively via email
- Able to organise daily workload to ensure high quality and safe care and work well and support surrounding team.
