The post holder will be a key member of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team, leading the surveillance of surgical site infections (SSI) and working with the IPC nurses on the surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs). They will ensure the delivery of high-quality, accurate data to enable robust analysis that supports and enhances IPC services across Whittington Health. This role is instrumental in producing and communicating critical IPC metrics to internal and external stakeholders, driving informed decision-making. In addition, the post holder will lead the development and maintenance of IPC surveillance programmes and data systems across the Integrated Care Board (ICB), underpinning effective analysis and impactful reporting.

Main Duties The post holder will play a vital role in supporting the Trust’s Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) agenda, with key responsibilities including:
- Supporting the national Surgical Site Infection (SSI) surveillance programme in line with UKHSA guidance.
- Managing complex IPC datasets across local and national platforms, ensuring exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Developing, maintaining, and monitoring IPC data systems and databases.
- Delivering specialist administrative and technical support for IPC surveillance programmes, data systems, and outbreak investigations.
- Demonstrating a strong commitment to continuous professional development, embracing new technologies and advancing information management skills.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Audit and Surveillance
- Analyse and report SSI surveillance data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely correction of discrepancies.
- Collaborate with the IPC team to report infection incidents appropriately, including complex cases, in line with Clinical Governance frameworks.
- Provide clear, actionable insights and feedback to clinicians and stakeholders, escalating concerns where necessary.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of SSISS data to UKHSA, complying with national deadlines.
- Contribute to Trust targets, benchmarking, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes.
- Produce high-quality reports, graphs, and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders, including commissioners and governance committees.
- Deliver timely reporting on key infections such as MRSA, MSSA, RGNB, CPE, and C. difficile.
Clinical Audit
- Support and coordinate clinical audit activities across the organisation, working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
- Manage and optimise the audit platform to provide real-time insights that drive service improvement.
- Ensure accurate data entry, validation, and submission aligned with quality indicators.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on data systems and reporting tools.
- Contribute innovative ideas to reduce healthcare-associated infections, including development of audit tools and tracking improvement plans.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and liaise with system support teams to maintain functionality and efficiency.
- Streamline data processes to minimise duplication and enhance data quality.
Secretariat and Leadership
- Produce high-quality reports, presentations, and documentation using advanced IT skills across Microsoft Office and relevant systems.
- Actively contribute to team meetings, sharing insights to improve departmental performance.
- Effectively manage and prioritise workload to meet deadlines and organisational objectives.
- Oversee resources and equipment responsibly.
- Provide line management to the IPC Administrator, including supervision, training, performance management, and development reviews.
- Support the wider IPC team and undertake additional responsibilities in line with the role’s seniority.
