We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Informatics Development Manager to lead the Trust’s data engineering, data platform and analytics capability.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of data and analytics within one of the UK's leading specialist NHS organisations at a pivotal point in its digital transformation journey.
Following the recent implementation of the Epic Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system and Epic Caboodle enterprise data warehouse, the Trust has access to an unprecedented breadth and depth of clinical and operational data. We are now looking for a leader who can help unlock the full value of these data assets, developing the data platform, expanding analytics capability and establishing the foundations for advanced analytics and data science.
You will lead a specialist team delivering data engineering and analytics services, ensuring the Trust has a robust, scalable and future-focused data capability that underpins reporting, insight, innovation and decision-making across the organisation.
Main duties of the job
About the role:
This role sits at the heart of our Informatics function and is responsible for:
- Leading the Trust’s data engineering and data platform capability
- Ensuring high-quality, well-structured data is available to support reporting and analytics
- Developing and leading advanced analytics capability, including predictive and modelling approaches
- Setting the strategic direction for data architecture, tools and platforms
- Building partnerships with clinical teams, operational leaders and external organisations
This role offers the opportunity to work at the centre of a major organisational transformation. The implementation of Epic has significantly expanded the Trust’s data landscape, creating new opportunities to curate, model and exploit data in ways that were not previously possible. The successful candidate will play a leading role in determining how these new data assets are utilised to improve patient care, operational performance and organisational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Data Engineering and Analytics service

Essential
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant subject (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Analytics, Statistics)
- Evidence of continuing professional development in data engineering, analytics or informatics
Desirable
- Professional certification or formal training in data platforms, cloud technologies or analytics tools

- Highly developed analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and derive insight
- Ability to lead on highly complex, non-routine problems
- Ability to translate organisational challenges into analytical approaches and solutions
- Ability to evaluate and implement advanced data engineering or analytical methodologies

Essential
- Significant experience of leading data engineering, analytics or informatics services in a complex organization
- Experience managing teams and delivering services, including workforce planning and staff development
- Experience working with large, complex and sensitive datasets derived from multiple clinical and corporate systems
- Experience working with senior stakeholders including clinicians, operational managers and executive leadership
- Experience delivering strategic change, transformation programmes or major system developments
- Experience translating business, operational or clinical requirements into technical or analytical solutions
- Significant depth of experience in EITHER: Data engineering, data platforms, database development or data warehousing (engineering-led) OR Analytics, advanced analytics or data science (analytics-led)
- Demonstrable ability to work across both domains and lead teams covering data engineering and analytics functions
- Extensive experience of SQL Server database management, including performance optimisation and indexing strategies
- Extensive data warehouse management experience specializing in managing a medium-to-large data warehouse and associated data structures
- Significant experience of designing and managing data warehouses and ETL/ELT pipelines
- Advanced querying skills using T-SQL or equivalent against large relational database management systems
- Experience of extracting, transforming and loading complex data from multiple clinical and corporate systems
- Experience of database design and data modelling within a healthcare or complex organisational environment
- Proven experience in the generation of SSIS packages
- Experience of developing or leading analytics / data science capability
- Experience of interpreting and analysing complex information and presenting it in a simplified manner.
- Extensive experience of supporting clinical and operational teams through provision of high-quality information and analysis
- Experience of interpreting and analysing data and applying this to inform decision-making
- Experience of advanced analytical approaches such as forecasting, statistical modelling or segmentation
- Experience generating reports and dashboards using business intelligence tools such as Power BI or equivalent
- Experience of handling, analysing and manipulating large, complex datasets in a secure and controlled manner
- Experience communicating complex technical or analytical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

- Experience developing relationships with external partners including other NHS organisations, academia or industry
- Experience of working within NHS data standards, data dictionary and reporting requirements
