An opportunity has arisen to join our Infection,  Prevention and Control Team at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, based at the Conquest Hospital.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team facilitating the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection for both acute and community integrated care.  You will have a sound knowledge of clinical nursing and an understanding of the basic principles of infection control.  You will need to have the ability and drive to empower and facilitate effective infection control practice.

You will be based at the Conquest hospital but work at other Trust sites when required. We offer a supportive, development focused environment with access to training and ongoing professional development.

Main duties of the job

As an Infection Prevention and Control Nurse you will provide specialist advice to the multi-disciplinary team, patients and visitors.  The role will include staff education and training using evidence based practice.

You will work with the team to contain and reduce the incidence of infection across the Trust through risk assessment, surveillance, audit, intervention and education and national and local policy.  You will support the delivery of the Trust's IPC strategy and annual programme of work. and take part in quality improvement initiatives.

You will be involved in responding to and supporting the management of outbreaks and incidents of  infection, necessitating the wearing of personal protective equipment.

You will need the  ability to work as part of a team  and also as a proactive autonomous member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team and have excellent communication skills.  It is important that you can prioritise your workload and are able to motivate others.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • A minimum of 3 years post registration experience
  • Experience of training of supervision of staff
  • Experience of activities related to infection control (e.g. Link facilitator or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Experience in undertaking audits or quality improvement relating to infection control
  • Experiences of managing own workload

Qualifications

Essential

  • 1st Level registered general nurse
  • Evidence of continued professional development to diploma level specialist training or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in specialism

Desirable

  • Infection control post graduate qualification (e.g. infection control module) or a willingness to undertake
  • Relevant teaching qualification (e.g. ENB998, City & Guilds 730 or equivalent)
