Job summary
The housekeeper will play a key role as part of the team, working under the direction and guidance of the Department manager/Charge Nurse or their designated deputy. The primary responsibility of the role is to assist the nursing team with non-clinical tasks, uphold high standards of cleanliness in the clinical areas, and contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients. They will be required to work across two sites. The main Outpatients Department and the Sid Watkins Outpatient Department.
Main duties of the job
Clean and disinfect clinical and non-clinical areas, including waiting areas, consultation rooms, and corridors, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness.
Assist nursing staff with non-clinical tasks, such as setting up treatment areas, moving equipment, and replenishing supplies.
Handle and dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste in accordance with infection control and department guidelines.
Monitor and report stock levels of cleaning supplies, linen, and consumables, ensuring that all required items are available.
Adhere to departmental policies, infection control protocols, and health and safety regulations to maintain a hygienic and safe environment.
Help in organising and maintaining clean storage areas for supplies and equipment.
Offer refreshments to patients and their families where appropriate, ensuring a patient-friendly experience.
Assist with tasks to support the overall patient care process, including collecting laundry, delivering pharmacy items, and other duties as directed by clinical staff.
Report any damaged equipment or required maintenance repairs to the estates team to ensure minimal disruption to patient care.
Keep store rooms clean, tidy, and organised, ensuring that equipment and stock are stored appropriately and accessible when needed.
Perform additional general cleaning tasks such as floor cleaning, dusting, and surface sanitation as required.
