Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Band 7

At a Highly Specialist level to assess, develop, treat and discharge adult clients referred with communication and swallowing difficulties within the main Croydon University Hospital and Community Departments, in particular the Out-Patient Voice Team.

To work in accordance with the Trust Consent to Treatment Policies

At a Highly Specialist level, to assess, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy Treatment for Adult clients with communication and swallowing difficulties.

To employ highly specialist interventions for patients/clients and carers who have severe disability and/or terminal illness on a daily basis; and evaluate outcomes.

To write reports reflecting specialist knowledge according to the standards of the Department and distribute these accordingly. To work as a member of the team, to provide an efficient, effective and co-ordinated Speech and Language Therapy Service.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the leadership and develop skills in the appropriate specialist area – Adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties in Adult Team.

To manage complex caseload independently

To monitor and evaluate own highly specialist service delivery and provide progress reports.

To be accountable for own professional action and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice as appropriate.  To liaise with and refer to Principal or other Highly Specialist Therapists as appropriate.

To work within defined departmental and national protocols/policies and professional code of conduct.

To work independently accessing appraisal within an Individual Performance Framework at pre-determined intervals.

To provide student placements, including assessment of the placements as appropriate.

To provide second opinions and advice to more junior colleagues.

To be involved with support of students from other professional groups as appropriate within section/team.

To assist with identification of training needs within section/ team

Essential

  • Evidence of a number of years working of working with Adult SLT patients
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the impact on clinical practice.
  • Evidence of working with Electronic records eg Cerner

Desirable

  • Worked within a Multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of Triage of referrals

Working with others

Desirable

  • Experience in working with external partners

Evidence of wiorking within changeing requirmenrts

Essential

  • Concepts of treatment in adult rehabilitation.
