AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application—but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you—not an AI tool.

One Year Fixed Term

Please note: As this post is part-time, the salary will be pro-rata.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join the team of SLTs working within NHS Lothian CAMHS on a fixed term, one year, basis. The SLT team works within local CAMHS Outpatient teams to support and develop the delivery of the Neurodevelopmental Pathway across NHS Lothian, as part of a mental health service.

Key result areas for the CAMHS SLT team include:

Case holding, as part of the neurodevelopment assessment pathway, often in the context of mental health considerations.

Training and supporting colleagues and families to recognise and appropriately support speech, language and communication skills; and eating, drinking and swallowing, in the context of working within mental health services.

Providing specialist SLT assessments and supports.

Creating and delivering environmental adaptations and supports for children and young people with neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions.

Promoting a partnership approach to enhance communication supports across settings using evidence-based, targeted approaches.

Evaluating and reporting on the quality improvements delivered through SLT.

SLTs are co-located with CAMHS colleagues and work flexibly across their bases in East Lothian, Midlothian, North & South Edinburgh and West Lothian. The team are line managed by SLT in partnership with CAMHS and are part of the Single System SLT service for professional networking, appraisal and CPD.

You will be a qualified Speech & Language Therapist with experience of working with children and young people with a wide range of neurodevelopmental and communication conditions in Health and Education settings. You will contribute to case management, assessment and evidence-based interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team and be familiar with monitoring and reporting outcomes on this work. You will contribute to service developments, as a SLT working with a mental health service. You will be familiar with national developments in Mental Health and the neurodevelopmental pathway and keen to promote the role of SLT in this field of work.

The Speech and Language Therapy Service is innovative and supportive. It is committed to the principles of improvement methodology to provide a high quality service focused on the child and family’s needs. All staff have a personal development plan and are encouraged to extend their skills through a variety of CPD activities.
