We are delighted to be able to offer a new opportunity to join the team here at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
This new role is within the Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Service. You will be working within the acute setting alongside a team of highly specialist speech and language therapists to support the development of our inpatient and outpatient services. We have new funding for the development of speech and language therapy within the Bone Marrow Transplant team and also to further develop the established videofluoroscopy service.
This is one of two new permanent positions available within the Paediatric speech and language therapy department. As a team we can offer a comprehensive supervision and CPD programme and opportunities to further develop advanced neonatal and paediatric clinical skills. Main duties of the job
The role will contribute to the delivery and further development of high quality and specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessments and interventions working with an MDT to support children with a variety of needs including complex feeding and swallowing difficulties, upper airway disorders, neurological conditions and communication difficulties within an acute setting. This role would suit an innovative person as there are opportunities for service development, being involved in research and further learning. You will be able to develop your specialist paediatric competencies in areas such as paediatric dysphagia, instrumental assessments and tracheostomy. There may also be opportunities to develop skills working with neonates on our L3 surgical unit
As a highly specialist speech and language therapist you will be working alongside a number of expert teams to deliver specialist care to infants, children and young people from across the South West region. We work alongside a wide range of clinical and community colleagues from within the trust, across the south west region and on a national level. Team members are encouraged to attend and present at conferences, CENs and other networking opportunities.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide a highly specialist speech and language therapy service for babies and children who are in patients at BRHC who have feeding and swallowing and communication difficulties and other complex needs associated with their medical conditions. This will involve assessment, complex differential diagnosis, interpretation and management. The post holder will support the Lead paediatric speech and language therapist and will also work autonomously on the wards.
