The successful applicant will provide a clinical psychology lead to deliver Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to adults with learning disabilities and longstanding challenging behaviours by implementing an established PBS pathway in conjunction with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist. The PBS Project Team comprises of Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Assistant Psychologists, and 2 Clinical Psychologists. In addition to direct clinical work, and supervision of colleagues PBS work, the post-holder will also work consultatively with service providers to embed PBS into the service cultures, including developing and delivering training to staff teams.

Strong engagement skills and the ability to work creatively in relation to challenging behaviour and complex multi-agency networks are essential. We are seeking candidates with a commitment to evidence-based practice, service development, client and carer participation and utilising outcome measures.

The successful applicant will lead the Project to demonstrably improve the quality of life for each client through the use of PBS and other specialist psychological approaches. It is expected that the project contributes to reductions in care package costs over time through effective use of PBS

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the delivery of an effective, high quality lpsychology service within EILDS.

To lead a project that delivers Positive Behaviour Support to a group of individuals with learning disabilities and longstanding challenging behaviours.

To develop, implement and manage the EILDS PBS Project pathway in collaboration with team members and managers within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.

To provide PBS supervision to clinicians within the project (comprising of Assistant Psychologist/ Behaviour Analyst, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist) to ensure all aspects of multi-component Positive Behaviour Support are offered, including coaching, training, and consultation work with service providers to embed PBS into the service cultures.

It is expected that the project can contribute through effective use of PBS to reductions in care package costs over time, as identified in EILDS review processes and report to managers and commissioners. A key aspect of the role is to lead in the collation and reporting of outcome measures, direct behavioural data, statistics, and conducting audit and/or research within the PBS project.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide specialist psychological assessments and interventions of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care. This is likely to be provided within, however not necessarily restricted to, the framework of Positive Behaviour Support.

To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological assessment and intervention/treatment and/or management of a clients challenging behaviours, mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.

To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams.

To evaluate and make decisions about intervention/treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of users whose problems are managed by psychologically based assessments/ interventions.
