A Preceptorship Clinical Psychologist will be supported to acquire the knowledge, skills and experience that meet the person specifications for the post at band 8a. Where these conditions are met the post holder will be expected to progress to band 8a subject to successful interview.

Main duties of the job

The memory services provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment initiation and support planning for individuals presenting with memory problems consistent with a suspected dementia. While we work primarily with people over 65, we assess adult patients of any age and have access to specialist investigations as required. We serve diverse populations and work closely with primary care and voluntary sector agencies in the area.

As the clinical psychologist in the memory service:

  • You will provide highly specialist neuropsychological and psychological assessments for individuals referred to SLaM memory services.
  • You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary memory service team which will involve developing effective working relationships with GPs, other professionals and the families and carers of individuals referred to the service
  • You will play a key role in delivering psychologically informed and culturally competent memory services
  • You will supervise more junior staff from psychological professions
  • You will initiate and evaluate service development and evaluation using appropriate methodology e.g. QI which you will share internally within SlaM and externally as presentations and publications.
