An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team on George Earle Ward, a 28-bed acute ward specialising in the care of patients who have experienced a stroke, as well as those with neurological and acute medical conditions.

The ward includes three Hyper Acute Stroke beds, supporting the rapid assessment and delivery of specialist stroke treatments and blood pressure management, ensuring patients receive timely and effective care at a critical stage of their recovery.

As a valued member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care. Working closely with nurses, therapists, speech and language therapists, discharge coordinators, ward clerks, catering teams and hotel services staff, you will contribute to ensuring the best possible outcomes and experience for our patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

• Undertake direct patient care, in support of, and under the delegation of the Registered Nurse, and document care given as required.
• Following training you will undertake various clinical tasks including cannulation and venepuncture, wound care, ECG recording, blood sugar checks and vital signs. You will be aware of when these need escalating to your nurse.
• You will support patients to maintain hygiene including mouth care, change positions to prevent skin damage, and with mobility.
• Checking of controlled drugs with Registered Nurse as required.
• Complete nutritional assessment records and weigh patients as required both on admission to complete MUST scores and weekly to ensure monitoring of body mass.
• Use equipment competently and follow Trust policy with equipment following training.
• Escort patients to other departments/hospitals for investigation

• Interview patients or carers as part of the assessment process
• Manual handling of patients and use of mechanical aids
• Undertake and accurately record and interpret clinical observations, routine tests and outcome measures
• Multitask, prioritise and adapt to the needs pf the patients and ward as a whole during each shift.
• Assist patients with continence and elimination requirements, including catheter and bowel care, recording as needed
• Assist patients to rehabilitate, working with physiotherapy and occupational therapists.
• Assist patients with food and drink following speech and language recommendations, maintaining food and fluid charts
