At Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) every patient is special, which means everyone who cares for them must be special too. Many of our patients are on long journeys to recovery, and so our staff build strong relationships with them and their families.

You’ll be joining Sky Ward, which focuses on orthopaedics and spinal surgery for children and young people from birth to 16+. It has 18 beds, including a four-bed high-dependency unit (HDU) where we are able to care for patients following complex surgery.

This is a chance to specialise in orthopaedic and spinal care as part of a dedicated world-class team of consultants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, learning disabilities nurses and play specialists.

While experience in orthopaedic and spinal nursing is welcome, our patients have a variety of underlying medical conditions, including learning disabilities, so we welcome healthcare assistants from diverse disciplines. We’ll build on your professional development to date with high-quality training, including caring for patients with tracheostomy’s.

Main duties of the job

• To be able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• To demonstrate effective communication skills.
• To work within agreed ways of working, under indirect supervision of a registered health care professional (usually a Registered Nurse), following relevant standards, policies and protocols and always acting within the limits of your training and competence.
• To exercise autonomy within your given area of responsibility, being accountable for your work and reviewing the effectiveness of your actions.
• To demonstrate best practice and supervise others as required.
• To follow and demonstrate the Trust Values, Expected Behaviours and Core Values of Compassion in Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012), and adhere to the GOSH Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers (2013).
