We are recruiting Health Care Assistants to join our Urgent Care Emergency Access Pathway services, providing vital support to individuals experiencing mental health crises across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.

About the Service:

You will be part of a dynamic, nursing-led team working across three specialist services: Mental Health Urgent Care Hub (MHUCH) The MHUCH hub is a unit set up during COVID to divert patients from accident and emergency to triage and assess patients with LLR who are experiencing mental health crisis. It is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with band 6 MHPs and band 3 health care support workers.

Mental Health Response Vehicle (MHRV) The MHRV is a new service set up in early 2024, it a mental health ambulance grey in colour with the NHS logo inscribed on the side. It provides on the scene triage and assessment for patients in mental health crisis within LLR. It is also staffed by band 6 MHPs and band 3 health care support workers, operating between 12:00pm and 00:30am 7 days a week.

Main duties of the job

Opening referrals and receiving referrals from our partner agencies Measuring of patients physical observations.

Interacting with patients during level 3 supportive observations at the PSAU. Offering patients snacks and drinks while wating for assessment.

Undertaking level 1 observations when patient is staying overnight at the MHUCH.

Attending patients address with a practitioner to complete assessments on MHRV.

Documenting all interactions on Electronic Patient Records.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 qualification in functional skills Maths and English or equivalent qualification
  • Level 3 qualification in Care or equivalent relevant experience

  • Physically capable for performing the role and responsibilities expected of the post holder, i.e. manual handling of clients/service users
  • Willingness to undertake further training and ongoing development

  • Demonstrates an ability to act calmly in emergencies and to respond in a professional manner in occasionally stressful and challenging situations.

  • Demonstrates skills in literacy, written, verbal and an ability to effectively use electronic information and computer technology.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of quality of care
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the role of a Senior Healthcare Assistant
  • Able to work under the direction of a registered practitioner
  • Ability to work efficiently, effectively and professionally in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work under own Initiative
  • Able to carry out routine and non-routine tasks.

Experience (both work and ‘life’ related)

  • Prior experience as a support worker
  • Experience of working in either: a healthcare environment; or social care organisation/setting; or lived experience of providing care; or service industry requiring people contact.
