Job overview

If you are currently working with patients who have a diagnosis of cancer, and wish to develop a career as a Clinical Nurse Specialist we have a unique opportunity within the Head and Neck cancer CNS teams at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. You will be working alongside experienced CNSs in an already established team.  We currently have one 6 month fixed-term position. This position is advertised as a band 7, however we welcome applications from experienced nurses who can demonstrate their potential.

This is an opportunity to make a worthwhile contribution in a friendly environment and provide specialist nursing advice to support people with Head and Neck cancers and facilitate high quality, care to patients and their relatives/carers in collaboration with a well-established multi-disciplinary team.

You will work collaboratively with all members of the extended multidisciplinary team including; imaging departments, medical and surgical consultants, clinical nurse specialists, research teams, administrative teams as well as teams at other hospitals. You will need to work independently, whilst being a part of the wider Cancer CNS Team.

You will be supported by a team of CNSs and other MDT members delivering an exceptional standard of nursing care for patients and their families throughout the cancer patient pathway.  You will further develop skills enabling you to practice in a more autonomous way of working within this specialist role.

Main duties of the job

  • As delegated, provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients and their relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets. This will be for inpatients, outpatients and day care patients of the Trust, and will involve liaison with community services as appropriate.
  • The post holder will provide specialist nursing care and support within their clinical speciality. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
  • To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
  • Working within existing CNS specialist team you will act as a Key Worker, carrying a clinical caseload but working under close supervision, to proactively manage care and provide easy access for ongoing support for patients.
