We have an exciting opportunity for an organised, dynamic and adaptable Band 6 Research Nurse to work collaboratively with the QMUL Wingate Clinical Trials Unit and Barts Health NHS Trust. The research that we conduct is focused on the holistic approach to patient care and significantly contributes to the future progress of healthcare for all. Working clinically with the team you will promote high standards of both patient care and research practice and contribute to the recruitment and retention of patients in research studies. The post holder’s primary role will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers on the Wingate Clinical Trials Portfolio which includes commercial and non-commercial studies. This will involve the recruitment, education and monitoring of Gastroenterology patients in studies and the collection and documentation of accurate data. You will work closely with IBD and Gastroenterology consultants and investigators of Queen Mary University London (QMUL) and Barts Health NHS Trust. You will work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in the management of your own caseload of patients in the clinical study. The post holder will deliver the study under the leadership of the Lead and Senior Research Nurses at the Royal London Hospital and The Wingate Clinical Trials Unit.
Main duties of the job
This post represents an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, organised nurse to develop their clinical research skills in a multi-site trial of an intervention working with a multidisciplinary team. Computer skills, team-working skills, flexibility and drive will be required to ensure the success of this post. You will need to have an excellent level of written and verbal communication skills and a meticulous eye for detail. Research experience is preferable, but not necessary as training will be provided. This post is fixed term for 1 year.

Essential
- Knowledge of data protection and GDPR, participant confidentiality requirements, and Caldicott Guidelines.
- Demonstrate an understanding of The NHS Long Term Plan and NHS England’s Research and Innovation Strategy, and their relevance to clinical trials in the UK
Desirable
- Applied knowledge of ICH GCP and regulations governing the conduct of clinical trials in the UK
- Knowledge and understanding of the clinical trials process, and the handling of clinical data
Experience
Essential
- Significant post registration nursing experience in the NHS
- Demonstrable experience of successful multidisciplinary team collaboration
- Demonstrable experience of utilising evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrable evidence of formal / informal teaching of participants, relatives and staff.
- Experience of explaining complex concepts to participants in a clear and simplified manner.
Desirable
- Holds current valid ICH/GCP certification
- Experience in clinical research with a proven ability to recruit to interventional and non interventional clinical trials
- Experience of nurse-led informed consent
- Experience of clinical trial data entry and query management.
- Previous use of clinical research management software e.g. EDGE, Redcap or EDC systems.
- Experience of working & nursing patients with Gastroenterology conditions
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Intravenous accreditation
- Phlebotomy and Cannulation accreditation
Desirable
- Teaching/Mentorship Course
- Educated to degree level
- ALS/ILS/APLS or equivalent
