Job overview

Join our Hepatology team and play a key role in delivering innovative liver health diagnostics across our hospitals.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and adaptable Fibroscan Technician to join the Hepatology team within the Division of Medicine at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be instrumental in supporting the delivery of high-quality liver health services across the Trust, performing Fibroscan diagnostics for patients referred by members of the multidisciplinary team. The role will be primarily based at Peterborough City Hospital, with some cross-site working at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Stamford and Rutland Hospital.

This is a key role for a proactive individual who enjoys working both independently and as part of a wider clinical team. Full training and supervision will be provided, and you will be supported to develop your skills and understanding of liver disease diagnostics.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform Fibroscan diagnostics for patients referred by internal and external Hepatology services in line with Trust protocols.
  • Prepare, calibrate, and maintain Fibroscan equipment, ensuring safe operation in accordance with manufacturer and Trust safety guidelines.
  • Explain the procedure clearly to patients, ensuring informed verbal consent is obtained and the patient experience is positive and professional.
  • Generate and communicate Fibroscan results promptly to referrers and primary care providers, maintaining accurate patient documentation.
  • Participate in the delivery of Fibroscans in community outreach settings, ensuring safe and effective service delivery off-site.
  • Perform venepuncture, capillary blood testing, and dry blood spot testing as required by the medical and nursing teams.
  • Contribute to audit and quality improvement initiatives within the Hepatology service.
  • Support new staff and contribute to the development of the Fibroscan service across the Trust.
  • Maintain confidentiality, dignity, and respect for patients at all times.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, with flexibility to support service needs across Trust sites.
