Job summary

As a Generic Worker, you will be an integral member of the Facilities Team, working closely with Facilities Housekeepers, Facilities Team Leaders, Facilities Catering staff, and, where appropriate, Heads of Departments. You will be directed by the Facilities Team Leader to undertake a variety of duties that support the smooth and effective running of services across the Trust.A key part of the role involves maintaining high standards of cleanliness through a planned and methodical approach, ensuring all designated areas are cleaned and maintained appropriately, the post holder will be directed by the Facilities Team Leader to carry out a range of duties for the needs of the service, following a planned and methodical approach in order to ensure all areas are included.

Participate in training as directed by the Facilities Team Leader. This would include training in cleaning techniques and mandatory training such as Fire Safety, Moving & Handing, COSHH, and Infection Control.

Main duties of the job

Areas may include:

  • Patient bedrooms, ward areas, day rooms, and lounges
  • Toilets, bathrooms, and other sanitary facilities
  • Offices and meeting rooms
  • Outpatients departments
  • Kitchens and catering areas
  • External patio areas and the immediate vicinity of building entrances

You will be expected to identify and report faults with equipment and assist in resolving minor issues where appropriate. The role also requires flexibility to adapt to changing cleaning schedules and service demands.

Training and development are an important part of this role. You will participate in training as directed by the Facilities Team Leader, including cleaning techniques and mandatory subjects such as Fire Safety, Moving and Handling, COSHH, and Infection Prevention and Control.

In addition to cleaning duties, you will provide cross-cover across Facilities services, which may include:

  • Supporting kitchen operations, including the preparation and service of food for patients and staff, and the production of vending sandwiches.
  • Providing portering cover, ensuring the safe and timely movement of patients, equipment, supplies, and other items across the hospital site.
